Desiree Davila

June 11, 2012

Desiree Davila outlines her preparation for the London Olympic Marathon:

We’re really just getting into it. I took 10 days off a couple weeks ago and then had three weeks of really easy mileage and mild workouts. My first marathon-paced workout was on Monday, so it’s just building up. The flip from building up and being into it was pretty quick. I hit 115 miles last week, so that happened really fast, and it just builds from there. I will get in another 110 or 115 miles again this week. There’s not really much backing down for this.

Based on the publication date of the interview, it appears Davila recent schedule looks like:

Fri May 4th – Sun May 13th — OFF

Wk of Mon May 14th — easy mileage, mild workouts

Wk of Mon May 21th — easy mileage, mild workouts

Wk of Mon May 28th — easy mileage, mild workouts

Wk of Mon June 4th — 1st marathon pace workout, 115 miles

If these dates are correct, Davila started running 12 weeks before the Olympic marathon (83 days to be exact), which would give her 3 mild training weeks, 7-8 weeks at full blast, and 1-2 taper weeks.
