Alberto Salazar has Ritz hitting the speed hard in the last few weeks leading up to the Olympic 10k:

DR:I’ve almost PR’d in the 400 five times in the last couple of weeks. I ran a flat-out 54 when I was in high school, and I’ve hit as low as 54.2 in practice at the end of recent workouts. And I actually did set a PR for 200–26.0.

I’ve been able to close the gap on Mo [Farah] and Galen [Rupp] in workouts. I still can’t match their explosive bursts, but for me, it’s been an amazing turnaround the last six weeks. We’ve turned down the volume a little, and freshened up the speed. I’m running 400-meter repeats in training about 3 to 4 seconds faster than I was before the Trials. We’ve been hitting the speed quite hard, and my legs are definitely feeling snappier.
